Narrated Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal that Hazrat ibn `Abbas said,
The Messenger of Allah drew four lines on the ground and asked,
"Do you know what these lines represent?"
They answered, "Allah and His Messenger know best."
He said, "The best among the women of the Garden are Khadijah binte Khuwaylid, Fatimah binte Muhammad, Maryam binte `Imran and Asiyah binte Muzahim."
Qanitah
The Arabic term implies the meaning not only of constant submission to Allah but also absorption in prayer and invocation, meanings that coincide with the image of Mary spending her childhood in the mihrab. In this way, Mary personifies prayer and contemplation in Islam.
Mother Mary is called ‘Siddiqah’ twice in the Qur’an. It means ‘one who testifies to the truth’ or ‘a person of the truth’. The term has also been translated as ‘She who believes sincerely and totally.’
It means ‘she who prostrates’. The prostration that Muslims do in their daily prayers is the prostration that Mary did: hands, knees and forehead touching the ground together.
Translated as ‘she who bows down in worship’. According to Islam, the command was repeated by angels only to Mary. The bowing down in the daily ritual prayers, known as ruku', has been derived from Mary's practice.
